Jurors Spend Exciting Moments Monday Night

When the jury that is to decide the fate of Leo M. Frank returned to its quarters in the Kimball hotel Monday evening it ran there into an adventure of almost harrowing intensity "harrowing at least when one considers the humdrum monotony of a juror's existence.

A swarm of bees had occupied one of the rooms of the jury suite. Twelve jurors and two bailiffs retired hastily, barricaded themselves in an adjoining room, and sent in a hurry call for bell hops and chambermaids, clerks and managers, to come and evict the intruders.

A quantity of flowers in the jury room had attracted the honeymakers through an open window, though it's a mystery why intelligent bees should have been hunting honey downtown.

Bailiffs Charles F. Huber and A. E. Pennington, in charge of the jury, led the retreat, and the advance of the bell hops was led by Erasmus Jones, colored. The bell hop brigade and the chambermaid corps were severely stung. Casualties among the bees were high, too, for many of them attempted to escape through the glass pane of a closed window. The room was not cleared for several minutes.
