Emil Selig, father-in-law of the suspected man, was put upon the stand to testify to Frank's conduct during the day and night of the tragedy and days that preceded his arrest.
"You and Mr. and Mrs. Frank live in the same home?" he was asked by Mr. Arnold.
"Yes, at 68 East Georgia avenue."
"Were you at home on April 25 and 26?"
"Yes."
"What time did you get home for dinner on the 26th?"
"About 1:15 o'clock."
"Were the ladies at home and at the table?"
"Yes."
"Did you notice anything unusual about Frank?"
"No."
"What did he do?"
"Sat down at the table and ate his dinner as usual."
"Do you remember when he left?"
"No."
"When did you see him next?"
"Before supper."
"What time did he get home?"
"About 6:30 o'clock."
"Did you have any guests that night?"
"Yes, a number of ladies "five in all "were there to play cards."
"Did Frank play?"

"No, he sat in the hall reading some humorous story about the umpire's decision."
"Did Mr. and Mrs. Frank go to bed before the guests departed?"
"Yes."
"When did you next see him?"
"The following morning late."
"Was he at dinner?"
"Yes, supper, too."
Cross-examination by Dorsey.
"You swore before the coroner's jury that Frank arrived at home about 1 o'clock, but never said anything about 1:20, didn't you?"
"Did Frank leave the house before you got up from your noon nap?"
"Yes."
"What time did he go upstairs?"
"It was after 9 o'clock."
"What did he have to say when he got back on the morning of the murder?"
"I don't remember."
"You talked with him during the day?"
"I did, but only a little."
Didn't Ask About Murder.
"You knew the murder had been committed at the factory, where he was superintendent, and, do you mean to say you didn't ask him anything about it?"
"I did not."
"You made no inquiries?"
"None."
"Frank didn't tell you anything about it when he came home, did he?"
"Not to me."
